Privacy policy

1. Who we are

Puentes Language Academy is a foundation based in the United States that offers free, one-on-one Spanish conversation classes by video call. It is responsible for your data.

2. What data we keep

Only what we need for the classes to work:

• Your account: your email address. If you sign in with Google, also the name and email Google shares with us.
• Your profile: name, time zone, page language, Spanish level and, if you upload one, your photo. Teachers also write a bio and their country.
• Your classes: date and time, the topic you write when booking, whether the class took place, the teacher’s feedback and cancellation reasons.
• Technical data: one cookie to keep you signed in and another to remember your language, plus the access logs our providers keep for security.
• If you donate: Zeffy shares your name, email and the amount with us, so we can send you a receipt and thank you.

3. What we use it for

• Creating your account and letting you sign in.
• Booking, showing, reminding you of and cancelling your classes.
• Sending you emails about your classes: confirmations, reminders and cancellation notices.
• Protecting the platform and counting general numbers (for example, how many classes took place this month).

We don't sell your data, show ads or use tracking tools.

4. Who else sees your data

Your teacher or student sees your name, photo, level, the class topic and the feedback. Students with an account see teachers’ names, photos, countries and bios.

We use these providers to run the platform. Each one handles data under its own privacy policy and may store it in the United States or other countries:

• Supabase: database, sign-in and photos.
• Vercel: hosts the website.
• Resend: sends the emails.
• Jitsi Meet: the video calls.
• Google: only if you choose to sign in with your Google account.
• Zeffy: processes donations, only if you donate. We never see your card details.

5. Video calls

We don't record classes. Each class has a room with a secret name that only the student and the teacher know. Audio and video go through the Jitsi Meet service during the call.

6. How long we keep it

As long as you have an account. If you ask us to delete it, we will delete or anonymize your data within 30 days, except what the law requires us to keep.

7. Your rights

You can see and correct your data in "My profile". To ask for a copy of your data, to have it deleted, or with any question, write to [contact email pending]. We will reply within 30 days.

8. Children

The platform is not directed to children under 13 and we don't knowingly collect their data. If you are 13 to 17, you need permission from a parent or guardian to use it. If you believe a child under 13 created an account, write to us and we will delete it.

9. Security

Connections are encrypted, each person can only see what concerns them, and only a few team members have administrator access. No system is 100% secure: if a problem affects your data, we will let you know.

10. Changes to this policy

If we change it, we will update the date above. If the change is important, we will also let you know by email.
